Vaughan Electric Co. Inc has been serving the Research Triangle Are of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill since 1981. We were founded by Samuel D. Vaughan Jr. and Samuel D. Vaughan III “Chip.”
While we started doing small Commercial projects, we’ve expanded our services to the Commercial, Education, Industrial, and Corporate sectors. Our teams consistently receive high praise. We set goals and stick to them-and we believe in our dedication to go above and beyond. This is what drives our overall success.
We make sure all our work is done safely, in accordance with all state and national codes. We are proud of our reputation as an industry leader and proud of being ranked in Triangle Business Journal Top 25 Electrical Contractors for consecutive years.

Our Leadership
SAMUEL D. VAUGHAN III “CHIP” – PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Sam’s son, Sam D. Vaughan III (Chip), had worked for Quality Electric during the summer breaks from school since he was 14 years old. He attended East Carolina University and worked part time for Watson Electric Company in Greenville. After completing his college education in 1980 he worked in electrical contractor sales for Electric Supply Company of High Point. Chip is a member of CECA, Oak Gove Masonic Lodge, Head of the Durham Electrical Contractor’s Association (DECA). Chip served on the North Carolina Code – Qualification Board from 2000-2004.
SAMUEL D. VAUGHAN JR. “SAM” – CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Sam started in the electrical industry fresh out of high school in 1952, with Thomerson Electrical Company. He completed four years of apprenticeship school and many evening business classes at Durham Technical Institute. In 1959, he went on to work for Modern Electrical Company for one year. In June of 1960, Sam and a fellow electrician, Lewis Fletcher, founded Quality Electric Company. This was a very successful business that grew to be one of the biggest and most reputable electrical contracting companies in the Research Triangle. Sam served on the North Carolina State Building Commission from 2007-2013. Sam is the Chairman of the NC Electrical Apprenticeship Contest Committee.
Sam is a dedicated member and officer of the Triangle Shrine Club, Amran Shrine Temple, and Oak Grove Ruritan Club and 33-degree Mason of Scottish Rite. Both Sam and Chip are members of the Oak Grove Masonic Lodge and Durham Electrical Contractor’s Association. They are both members of CECA that support the electrical contractors and Sam is a member of CECA’s Board of Directors.
Sam feels that the fellowship and networking among the electrical contractors throughout the state of North Carolina is very important. The prosperity of CECA is the responsibility of all its members.
SAMUEL D. VAUGHAN IV “CHAD” – VICE PRESIDENT
Chip’s son, Samuel D, Vaughan IV (Chad), had worked for Vaughan Electric during high school and college. He attended North Carolina State and earned his Civil Engineering Degree – Structural Design. After college, Chad went to work for Suffolk Construction in Miami, FL and Walsh Brothers in Boston, MA for several years.
TONY CANNADY – CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER
Tony manages the day-to-day office responsibilities, scheduling, manages pre-construction, human resources, and accounting. She has been in the electrical industry over 49 years.
